The College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Vermont (UVM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Boyi Dai as Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science.
Dr. Dai holds a Ph.D. in human movement science from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an M.S. in kinesiology from Iowa State University. He earned his B.E. in Exercise Science from Beijing Sport University. Most recently, Dr. Dai was the graduate program coordinator and professor of biomechanics for the University of Wyoming Division of Kinesiology and Health.
Dr. Dai’s research focuses on injury biomechanics, sports biomechanics, and ergonomics, particularly investigating injury mechanisms and risk factors to develop prevention strategies. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed articles in top-tier journals, and his list of research presentations is extensive and varied, with local to international appeal and a consistent focus on including students and interprofessional collaborators. He has been a principal and co-investigator on several significant research projects funded by agencies such as the NSF and NIH totaling over 1 million dollars in research funding. His work has garnered commendable recognition, including the 2022 Outstanding Research Award from the University of Wyoming College of Health Sciences and a Fellowship with the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports in 2023.
Dr. Dai also has an exemplary record of service to his academic unit, university, and profession. He has held roles on the University of Wyoming Institutional Review Board Committee, University of Wyoming Faculty Senator Committee, and College of Health Sciences Research Committee. He contributes to the field through editorial positions with Sports Biomechanics, Journal of Biomechanics, Research in Sports Medicine, and BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, and by reviewing grant proposals for NIH and NSF, as well as tenure and promotion cases for multiple universities. Dr. Dai serves as a vice president for the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports.
He is deeply committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the academic community, and his efforts have included mentoring underrepresented students and collaborating on DEI-focused projects and initiatives aimed at increasing diversity and promoting an inclusive environment among students, faculty, and staff.
Dr. Dai will begin his appointment as chair in August.
