Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego, one of the nation’s top pediatric healthcare systems, in collaboration with the University of California, San Diego, is delighted to announce Dr. Praveen Raju, MD, PhD, as the new Medical Director of the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program. Dr. Raju has also been named the Nathan Gordon Chair in Neuro-Oncology, a position established in 2021 to honor the memory of Nathan Gordon, who was diagnosed with a rare tumor in his spinal cord at 15 months old.
Dr. Raju’s role at Rady Children’s will involve spearheading the growth of the Neuro-Oncology Program and advancing research efforts on pediatric brain and spinal tumors. His approach integrates subspecialty expertise to address various forms and distinct molecular subtypes of pediatric brain and spinal tumors. Dr. Raju joins Rady Children’s from Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital, where he served as a pediatric neurologist and directed the laboratory for pediatric brain tumor research at the Icahn School of Medicine. His research focuses on the developmental origins of medulloblastoma and other pediatric brain tumors, as well as advancing novel drug delivery strategies.
