Dr. Robert Harbaugh Appointed Chief Medical Officer at Hershey Medical Center

Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center has officially appointed Dr. Robert Harbaugh as the Chief Medical Officer, effective March 25. Dr. Harbaugh, who has been serving in an interim capacity since April 2023, will also continue his support for the outpatient practices affiliated with Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

In his role as Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Harbaugh will provide executive-level leadership for the physician teams at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, focusing on driving growth, collaboration, and efficiency in clinical services. His extensive knowledge of the Penn State Health system and the healthcare needs of the region has been instrumental in advancing clinical services over the past year.

Dr. Harbaugh’s notable career includes his appointment in 2003 as professor and chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at Penn State College of Medicine, making him the first graduate of the college to return as a department chair. His leadership extended to serving as director of Penn State Institute of the Neurosciences and as a professor of engineering science and mechanics at Penn State.
