05 Aug, 2022

We are proud to welcome Sandra Lin, MD, as our new Chair of the University of Wisconsin Department of Surgery’s Division of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery.

Dr. Lin joins us from Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she was a professor and Vice Chair for the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, which was recently ranked 5th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. While there, she was also the Director of Otolaryngic Allergy Services for 18 years and the department’s inaugural Director of Diversity & Inclusion for 12 years. As the latter, Dr. Lin led the charge to several milestones, including employing the largest number of women full professors across all surgical departments at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Known as a leader both at Johns Hopkins and in otolaryngology nationwide, Dr. Lin has also held several national leadership positions, including Associate Editor for the International Forum of Allergy and Rhinology and President of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. Dr. Lin has also built an impactful research profile and brings a successful history of collaboration, scholarship, and mentorship to the University of Wisconsin Department of Surgery.

Dr. Lin returns to the Midwest after starting her career here: she completed her B.A. at Washington University in St. Louis, her medical degree at the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine, and her residency in otolaryngology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She spent the beginning of her academic career as an Assistant Professor at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, IL, before her plethora of leadership opportunities at Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Lin assumes the role of Division Chair on August 1, 2022. With her decades of leadership as an educator, administrator, and provider, Dr. Lin’s experiences will guide her and the Division of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery.
