Uma Krishnamurti, MBBS, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Pathology, has been named the new Director of Breast Pathology in the Department of Pathology at Yale School of Medicine, effective June 1.
Chen Liu, MD, PhD, Chair of Yale Pathology, announced the promotion at a recent faculty meeting.
Dr. Krishnamurti is a pathologist with expertise in breast pathology, cytopathology, and gynecologic pathology. She completed her residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Minnesota and the University of Pittsburgh followed by a Fellowship in Cytopathology at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Krishnamurti joined the faculty at Yale in 2021 and has served as Associate Director of Breast Pathology since her arrival.
“Congratulations to Dr. Krishnamurti. We look forward to working with you to further elevate the status of Breast Pathology in our department,” Dr. Liu said during his announcement before continuing to thank John Sinard, MD, PhD, for serving as acting director for the past year and Malini Harigopal, MD, the former Director of Breast Pathology, for ensuring a smooth leadership transition, which he said was made easier because of support from the entire Breast Pathology team.
Dr. Krishnamurti served as Principal Investigator and Director of the Breast Satellite Tissue Bank of Winship Cancer Institute, Emory University, from 2015-2021. Her principal areas of academic interest in breast pathology include diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive markers of triple negative and HER2 positive breast cancer.

Dr. Krishnamurti is a pathologist with expertise in breast pathology, cytopathology, and gynecologic pathology. Dr. Krishnamurti has been course faculty at the American Society of Cytopathology (ASC), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), and College of American Pathologists (CAP) annual meetings. Dr. Krishnamurti has also served on the Cancer Committee of the CAP and Membership Committee of the ASC. She is currently Chair of the Research and Current Concepts Committee of the ASC and on the Editorial Committee of the American Joint Commission on Cancer.
