20 Nov, 2017

Tulane University has received two anonymous gifts of $5 million each to recruit top faculty to the esteemed university.  The $10 million in recent gifts will be used to establish endowed Presidential Chair positions that will be filled by professors renowned for innovative research and teaching that crosses and combines different fields of knowledge to solve complex societal problems.

The Tulane Presidential Chairs will be utilized to help facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration across campus. Tulane President, Michael Fitts, stated that ‘we are working hard to find the most innovative, brilliant scholars around the world to fill these Presidential Chair positions’.

Fitts hopes to add 10 Presidential Chair endowments eventually, these first 2 endowed research positions will be a great start toward this goal.

These pre-eminent faculty recruits will be hired as university-wide professors with joint appointments between various Schools within the Tulane system (i.e. Tulane University School of Medicine, School of Engineering, etc.). The goal is to further develop interdisciplinary research across campus.

Tulane University President Mike Fitts’ emphasis on cross-disciplinary research and studies centers around his interest in recruiting the best and brightest to Tulane. “An exceptional faculty is the centerpiece of a great university. These gifts will be a boost to Tulane’s growing reputation as one of the nation’s most highly regarded schools,” Fitts said. “We are so grateful.”
