Becker’s Hospital Review releases “100 great healthcare leaders to know | 2017”

13 Apr, 2017

At the end of March, Becker’s Hospital Review released their 2017 list of “100 great healthcare leaders to know.”

Because Academic Med specializes in recruiting top talent in the healthcare industry, our team values knowing the key players. By being familiar with these decision makers and their strategies, we can better understand healthcare trends in a rapidly changing market. Especially with the ambiguity surrounding the government’s role in healthcare in America, we strive to constantly know and then analyze what is happening in the market around us. We look to these influential leaders as guides to understand the factors driving change in the industry, which enables us to advise clients with the power of knowledge behind us.

Here is a summary of a few of the leaders that stuck out to us:

Mona Hanna-Attisha, MD. Director, Pediatric Residency Program, Hurley Medical Center (Flint, Michigan). Dr. Hanna-Attisha has been an advocate for the Flint, Michigan residents affected by the lead contaminated drinking water she brought to light in the fall of 2015. She studied the lead levels and exposed the problem to the public, creating national attention. She was named by Time magazine among the 100 influential people in 2016 and received the Michigan State Medical Society Public Health Leadership Award last year, as well.

Susan Ehrlich, MD. CEO, Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. Dr. Ehrlich, an internist by training, assumed this CEO role in April 2016. Previously, she served as the CEO of San Mateo Medical Center, which has a staff of about 1,500 and $270 million budget. In her current role, she oversees a staff of 5,400 and manages a $1.1 billion budget. She continues to practice medicine, specializing in developmental pediatric and adolescent medicine, at the hospital.

Stephen Hemsley. CEO, UnitedHealth Group (Minnetonka, Minnesota). Mr. Hemsley has served at UnitedHealth Group for 20 years and has been the CEO for over 10 years. The company invests nearly $3.2 billion each year in technology and innovation in multiple areas such as global health and health care modernization. The company reaches all 50 states and 125 other countries, while also employing 260,000 team members.
