SSM Health, a Catholic, not-for-profit health system in the Midwest, and affiliated with Saint Louis University announced plans for a new $550 million Academic Medical Center to serve St. Louis and advance the tripartite AMC mission.
The new state-of-the-art facility will have a total of 316-beds and 802,000-square-feet. The masterplan includes areas for the new hospital campus and facilities, with additional space allotted for future expansion, and ultimately the goal of creating a synergistic relationship between Saint Louis University School of Medicine and SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.
According to the press release from Saint Louis University: “This plan shows our commitment to the City of St. Louis and to an improved patient experience that supports our mission to provide exceptional care. We will not only provide world-class health care for patients throughout the Midwest but also ensure they are treated in a more comfortable healing environment.”
The plan’s advancements will enable adaptation to St. Louis’ demands for years to come. Facility improvements include “all-private patient rooms, larger intensive care units and an expanded emergency department. To provide patients with more convenient options, the new outpatient care center will expand outpatient surgery services and provide additional clinical space for SLUCare physician practices. Dedicated educational space throughout the facility will allow Saint Louis University to better train future physicians and health practitioners.”

Construction will begin in late 2017 and should to be completed by Sept. 1, 2020.
