Gentry Zacheis, as the President, CEO, and Co-Founder of Academic Med, is a renowned leader in the field of academic medicine and healthcare executive search. With a career dedicated to building teams and solving complex problems for the world’s top academic medical centers, R1 research institutions, medical schools, and health systems, Gentry has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of healthcare leadership recruitment.
Under Gentry’s leadership, Academic Med has emerged as a leading retained executive search firm, known for its strategic recruitment and consulting solutions within the niche of academic medicine. He has been instrumental in partnering with Health System CEOs, Medical School Deans, and Department Chairs to recruit top-tier physicians, scientists, and healthcare executives.
Gentry’s expertise extends across marketing, strategic sales, management consulting, and entrepreneurial management, leveraging these skills to help clients build leading disease-specific centers of excellence (COE) in patient care, medical education, and research. This includes areas of basic science, translational research, and clinical research/clinical trials.
Since founding Academic Med in 2012, Gentry has established long-term partnerships with prestigious institutions such as Tulane University School of Medicine, University of Minnesota Medical School, UPMC, State University of New York, University of Florida Health System, University of Kentucky College of Medicine, and UAB Health System. Education & Experience
Gentry completed his BBA at the Texas Christian University’s M.J. Neeley School of Business in Fort Worth, Texas, where he received degrees in Marketing and Entrepreneurial Management.
Before founding Academic Med, Gentry distinguished himself as an Executive Search Consultant and Project Director with one of the largest recruitment firms in the US. During his tenure with this firm, Gentry was consistently recognized for his production accomplishments and expertise in healthcare and physician recruitment. In 2011, Gentry received the esteemed award of “Project Consultant of the Year” which is awarded annually to the company’s top-producing Project Consultant.
He currently resides in Dallas, Texas with his wife and 2 children, where he is actively involved in several non-profit organizations.
