Position Overview
Augusta University (AU) is hiring 15-20 new faculty members for a transdisciplinary research initiative in Healthy Longevity entitled, Transdisciplinary Research cluster in Inflammaging and Brain Aging (TRIBA). The initiative is a cluster recruitment for interdisciplinary faculty positions across AU colleges, including the College of Nursing, to build upon existing AU strengths in Bioinformatics, Artificial Intelligence, Precision Medicine, Personalized Nutraceuticals and Neuroscience to identify potential causes and adverse outcomes of age-related inflammation. Incoming faculty will be associated respectively with the Medical College of Georgia, School of Computer and Cyber Sciences, Dental College of Georgia, College of Allied Health Sciences and the College of Science and Mathematics.

The AU College of Nursing, as part of the TRIBA initiative, will hire faculty members with established and/or strong potential for extramural research programs focused on the chronic and progressive inflammatory response to such factors as stress, age, injury, acute or chronic illness, etc. The incoming faculty will join a robust team of 18 research-oriented nursing faculty colleagues at the College of Nursing which offers hallmark learning experiences, including

Applicants for the faculty positions are expected to have significant postdoctoral experience, strong record of research accomplishment and demonstrated ability to develop extramurally funded, independent research programs.

Minimum Requirements

• PhD in Nursing
• Active license to practice nursing in the state of Georgia or meet all eligibility requirements to apply for a nursing license in the state of Georgia.
• Those seeking rank of Assistant Professor will bring research training and demonstrate high potential to secure extramural research funding. Higher academic ranks are available to candidates with demonstrated extramural funding, progressive program of research, and expert in their field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Academic teaching experience in didactic and/or clinical instruction
• Funded program of research
• Comfort with technology-infused engaging pedagogical strategies including simulation and other active learning modalities.
• Evidence of contribution to the profession and recognition at the local, regional, or national level

About the College of Nursing at Augusta University

The College of Nursing at Augusta University is the state’s flagship nursing program, enrolling more than 1000 students on two campuses and at numerous academic-practice partner sites. The College of Nursing, an integral component of the University System of Georgia is part of the state’s only publicly funded comprehensive academic health science center including schools of medicine, dentistry, and allied health sciences. Faculty researchers at AU CON benefit from the Center for Nursing Research (CNR) which advances the College of Nursing research and scholarship mission by facilitating faculty and student efforts to obtain external funding to support research, educational, and service demonstration projects. The CNR team coordinates student and faculty access to a wide range of support services within the College of Nursing and Augusta University. AU CON research faculty as well benefit from well-established departmental support and oversite including Behavioral Nursing and Physiological and Technical Nursing.

The Center for Nursing Research (CNR) seminars and workshops focus on research works-in-progress, completed research, research-related topics, and engaged scholarship. Presenters include College of Nursing and other Augusta University faculty as well as guest speakers. CNR Workshops may be designed for a specific audience. However, CNR Seminars are open to all AU faculty, staff, and students as well as AUMC employees.

Community Advisory Board

The College of Nursing established the Community Advisory Board (CAB) in 2003 with the mission “to promote mutual understanding and cooperation in working toward improved health for community members.” The board has a special focus on health disparities and advises university-wide researchers on matters of interest to the broader community.

Recruitment of CAB members emphasizes diverse ethnic and economic perspectives. The CAB is comprised of volunteer members who live and work in the Central Savannah River Area. They are community lay people, leaders, pastors, valued community health workers and interested professionals.

WHAT WE DO

The CAB is an essential partner in facilitating effective community engagement and achieving Augusta University’s broad research mission. Through bi-monthly meetings CAB members facilitate community-based research by providing guidance, feedback and endorsement of planned projects. As well-informed advisors, CAB members routinely provide their views and opinions regarding proposed community-based projects and often influence decisions that impact the broader community.

About the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University
The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is the flagship medical school of the University System of Georgia, the state’s only public medical school, and one of the top 5 largest medical schools in the United States.
