The FSU College of Medicine is recruiting a clinically oriented Family Medicine physician and leader to play a key role at its FSU PrimaryHealth™ community-based clinic. This position as medical director for FSU PrimaryHealth™, will also include broader leadership duties as Strategic Director of Medical Services for the Florida Medical Practice Plan, Inc. (FMPP), which administers the ambulatory care practices of the FSU College of Medicine. This leadership role will be pivotal in enhancing our commitment to delivering innovative healthcare, education, and community service.
This is a full-time physician position with a primary staff appointment based in FMPP. The candidate will also be eligible for a community faculty appointment through the College’s regional campus structure. This role will include 50% protected time for leadership responsibilities, and an active clinical role as a Family Medicine provider.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Medical Director of FSU PrimaryHealth™ – Provides strategic clinical leadership to 12-15 clinicians (MDs, DOs, APRNs, PAs, LCSWs, PharmDs) in partnership with clinical operations leaders, for a full-scope family medicine outpatient practice without OB.
- Communities in Action for Medical Innovation (CAMI) medical services development– Provides strategic guidance on the creation, growth, and integration of (non-psychiatric) medical services for FMPP-administered mental health & SUD pilot program.
- FMPP Clinical Operations Advisor– As requested by the FMPP Chief Operating Officer and Head of Clinical Operations, serves as clinician advisor for strategic planning, clinical services growth, and operations viability of current and future family of ambulatory practices.
- FMPP Physician Liaison to FSU Health – As FSU, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, Mayo Clinic Florida, and other clinical institutions form the FSU Health academic enterprise, helps establish and strengthen the FMPP clinical connection to FSU Health with other leaders involved in the process.
- Learner “Success Officer” across FMPP clinical settings– As a physician leader based inside the clinical enterprise, ensures that its structure, systems, and workflows are advancing the needs of learners as determined by academic Chairs from across the University to the highest degree possible. Also serves as consultant to nursing staff and other staff physicians within FSU PrimaryHealth™ and other COM medical practices administered by Florida Medical Practice Plan, Inc. (FMPP). May serve as preceptor to students on clinical rotations, as well as potential off-site preceptor of Family Medicine and other residents.

Required Qualifications
Doctoral degree (MD or DO), four years of experience, and personal/professional goals which are consistent with the mission of the FSU College of Medicine and Florida Medical Practice Plan, Inc. (Note: years spent in the completion of an approved residency program may count toward required experience.)
- Valid license to practice medicine in accordance with Chapter 458, Florida Statutes (or eligibility to obtain)
- Completion of an approved U.S. Residency Program and valid Board Certification in Family Medicine or appropriate discipline
- Current Federal DEA license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Certification by certifying agency, or the ability to obtain prior to hire
- Provider trained in and passionate about Family Medicine
- Experience assessing patient condition independently or in consultation
- Experience providing appropriate treatment or referral for treatment
- Knowledge of and ability to apply current principles, methods and practices for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment
- Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook or equivalent software
- Experience communicating effectively verbally and in writing
- Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
- Significant evidence-based leadership competencies
Post-job offer, but prior to hire, the following will be required:
- Current PPD (Purified Protein Derivative) test as performed by a qualified physician from within the past 6 months
- Physical examination completed by a qualified healthcare provider/physician from within the past 6 months
Within 30 days of hire, you must provide:
- Documentation of vaccination for Tetanus within the last 10 years
- Proof of immunization OR positive titers for Hepatitis B

At the Regional Medical School Campus – Tallahassee, clerkship directors from the Tallahassee area direct the students’ rotations in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, obstetrics-gynecology, geriatrics, psychiatry and emergency medicine. Additional community physicians serve as clerkship faculty in these and other clinical areas.
