Position Overview

The School of Computer and Cyber Sciences, as part of the TRIBA initiative, is seeking faculty members with expertise in areas such as image processing, machine learning, data sciences, visualization, or others that have an application to the health domain. Applicants engaged in, or having strong potential of, interdisciplinary collaborations with health domain scientists are encouraged to apply.

AU-TRIBA

Augusta University (AU) is hiring 15-20 new faculty members for a transdisciplinary research initiative in Healthy Longevity entitled, Transdisciplinary Research cluster in Inflammaging and Brain Aging (TRIBA). The initiative is a cluster recruitment for interdisciplinary faculty positions across AU colleges, including the College of Nursing, to build upon existing AU strengths in Bioinformatics, Artificial Intelligence, Precision Medicine, Personalized Nutraceuticals and Neuroscience to identify potential causes and adverse outcomes of age-related inflammation. Incoming faculty will be associated respectively with the Medical College of Georgia, School of Computer and Cyber Sciences, Dental College of Georgia, College of Allied Health Sciences and the College of Science and Mathematics.

The School of Computer & Cyber Sciences (SCCS) was founded in 2017 with the mission to provide high-engagement, state-of-the-art education, and research across its Computer Science, Information Technology, and Cybersecurity disciplines, and with the vision of becoming a national leader in Cybersecurity. The School is undergoing an unprecedented transformation, as we are becoming a comprehensive research college, with national prominence, and a leader in cybersecurity education and research.

Augusta, Georgia is becoming a primary hub for cybersecurity in the United States, and the area is poised for explosive development. It is located at the center of a number of academic, governmental and corporate partnerships critical to the nation’s cyber security, including the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence, the National Security Agency Georgia, the home of the United States Army Cyber Command, and the nearby Savannah River National Laboratory in South Carolina. The State of Georgia invested $100M in the Georgia Cyber Center at Augusta University, a 325,000-square-foot research and education facility which opened in 2018 and is home to the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences.

Augusta University has embarked on an ambitious, multi-year effort to significantly expand its computing, cybersecurity, and data science activities. Applications are being invited for multiple other tenure-track and tenured positions at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor levels, with responsibilities to advance education and research in all mainstream areas of computing and cybersecurity, including information systems, data science and other closely related and emerging fields.

Augusta University is proud to be a designated Center of Academic Execellence, specifically in the area of Cyber Defense (CAE-CD). This designation is sponsored jointly by the National Security Agency (NSA) and several federal agencies.

All regionally accredited two-year, four-year and graduate level institutions in the United States are eligible to apply for a Center of Academic Excellence designation.  The goal of the CAE-CD designation is to offer programs designed to reduce vulnerability in our national information infrastructure by promoting higher education and research in cyber defense and producing professionals with cyber defense expertise. Augusta University’s School of Computer and Cyber Sciences is in an elite class of higher education institutions, as less than 250 universities nationwide have the Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense designation! The School of Computer and Cyber Sciences Center for Cybersecurity engages with a variety of communities to carry out the mission of the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences, to include serving as the Augusta University representative to the National Centers for Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (CAE-C) program. As such, the Center for Cybersecurity is the lead effort for Augusta University Center of Academic Excellence designations to include our current designation as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education. The Center’s vision is to attract top students to the school’s degree programs and top research initiatives to our talented faculty.

School of Computer & Cyber Sciences Facilities

Located just moments away form Broad Street and the Riverwalk in Downtown Augusta, the Georgia Cyber Cetner, home of Augusta’s SCCS, boasts two adjacent buildings totalling 332,000 square-feet.

This unique facility is designed for a student to attend class and then participate in an internship of a potential employer in the same building. Classes are taught by faculty from Augusta University, the U.S. Army Cyber School, Cyber Protection Brigade, and NSA Georgia. Partnerships here will impact K-12, academia, the health care industry, all levels of government, and the business community.

The connections fostered at this facility will continue to open many doors into the future for cybersecurity research, workforce development, and entrepreneurship, making Augusta, Georgia a hub for talent within the cyber industry.

Augusta University Research Institute

Clinical and translational research programs at Augusta University focus on three key areas that disproportionately affect the health of Georgians: cancer, cardiometabolic disease, and neurological disease including stroke. We are also developing three emerging areas of research strength: regenerative & reparative medicine, personalized medicine & genomics, and public and preventive health.

Regenerative and reparative medicine will expand studies of diseases or injuries that impact muscles and skeleton, central nervous system, orofacial, orthopedics, and stroke & neurotrauma. Our cardiovascular, obesity, and diabetes research fights the greatest threats to the western Word. Cancer and genomic medicine research are reducing the burden of cancer through superior clinic care, discovery innovation, translational research, and education. Neurological research is unlocking the mysteries of schizophrenia, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis. Personalized medicine is being developed to customize treatments for individual patients, which public and preventive health measures are working to prevent diseases. The Dental College is improving the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of disease of the orofacial complex, while the Vision Center is engaging in high impact research and discovery related to visual function and disease, the outcome of which is expected to have far-reaching clinical applications for patients suffering from blindness and visual disorders. The multidisciplinary field of Women’s Health is on the cutting edge of research related to the care of women. Our newest area of research will be thorough the very exciting start-up of the Cyber Institute at Augusta University.
