Position Overview

The Houston Methodist Neurology Department is seeking an accomplished Physician Scientist with expertise in peripheral nerve research for the role of Director of Peripheral Neuropathy Center. The esteemed position of Director of Peripheral Neuropathy at the Houston Methodist Medical Center offers a distinct opportunity to be at the forefront of neurological advancements. The selected candidate will be pivotal in propelling our center to the zenith of research and treatment in the realm of peripheral neuropathy.

Position Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Collaboration: Guide and steer a multidisciplinary team toward innovative peripheral nerve disease treatment and research. Work in tandem with departments across the Houston Methodist network to ensure top-tier patient care.
  • Research: Champion groundbreaking research initiatives in areas like Charcot-Marie-Tooth and Related Neuropathies, Inflammatory Neuropathy, Diabetes Neuropathy, Neuropathic Pain, Toxic Neuropathy, and Basic Neuroscience of Peripheral Nerve System.
  • Funding & Grants: Harness an established prowess in extramural research funding to procure essential resources, ensuring our center remains at the vanguard of scientific pursuit.
    Mentorship: Cultivate the growth and development of budding researchers and clinicians, ensuring our dedication to excellence thrives for generations.
    Strategic Planning: Collaborate closely with Dr. Jun Li, Chair of Neurology, in sculpting the strategic trajectory for the Peripheral Neuropathy Center.

Required Qualifications

  • An MD, MD/PhD degree with a focus in Neuromuscular Diseases, Peripheral Nerve Diseases or related fields.
  • Eligibility for Academic Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Full Professor
  • Comprehensive experience and accomplishments in peripheral neuropathy and its associated specialties.
