Assistant/Associate Professor, Department of Family Medicine – WesternU COMP-Northwest
Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP) is launching a nationwide search for an outstanding faculty member to join the Department of Family Medicine as Assistant/Associate Professor at the COMP-Northwest campus in Lebanon, OR. The University recently received a $22.5M donation to expand the COMP-Northwest campus, the largest gift in the University’s 45-year history and 150 acres of land to build the new campus. This generous gift that will enhance WesternU’s presence in the Pacific Northwest and services to the students, alumni, and community.
The Mission of the College is to prepare students to become technically competent, culturally sensitive, professional, and compassionate physicians who are prepared for graduate medical education, who are lifelong learners, and who will serve society by providing comprehensive, patient-centered healthcare with the distinctive osteopathic philosophy.
The role of faculty in the Department of Family Medicine (DFM) is to train students according to the COMP Mission. This is accomplished through excellence in curriculum, translational research, service, osteopathic clinical practice, and the enhancement of osteopathic graduate medical education.
Required Qualifications
- Education: DO or MD degree. Residency trained and Board Certified in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
- Experience: 2-3 years’ experience in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
- Licensure: Unrestricted State Licensure and Unrestricted Drug Enforcement Agency certificate
Preferred Qualifications
- Individuals who possess prior medical student teaching experience
- Bilingual capabilities
- Formal training or coursework in medical education and/or clinical research experience.

COMP-Northwest
In 2011, the University ventured north to Lebanon, OR and opened the new College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific-Northwest, the first medical college constructed in one hundred years in Oregon. The COMP-Northwest campus has a running enrollment of approximately 400 students after welcoming its inaugural class of 107 osteopathic medical students.
The COMP-Northwest campus addresses the health care needs of residents throughout the Northwest. We will achieve our goal of educating osteopathic physicians from the Northwest, in the Northwest, for the Northwest by attracting students with outstanding personal and academic qualities, and teaching them to recognize and develop the knowledge, behaviors, and skills necessary for the effective and compassionate practice of medicine.
COMP-Northwest Expansion
WesternU will receive a donation of $22.5M from FamilyCare, Inc., a non-profit organization serving over 130,000 Medicare and Medicaid members and the only osteopathic HMO in the United States. Dr. Jeff Heatherington, President of FamilyCare and CEO of The Heatherington Foundation for Innovation and Education in Health Care, will donate 150 acres to create a new and expanded campus for COMP-Northwest and launch a behavioral health college to provide equally needed and critical health services.
College of Health Sciences
The University has embarked on further expansion in Lebanon as a key part of the overall WesternU Strategic Plan, “Achieving Aspirations,” with the College of Health Sciences welcoming the inaugural Oregon cohort of Physical Therapy students in July 2021 and adding an Occupational Therapy program to the Lebanon campus in 2022.
Department of Family Medicine
The specialty of family medicine is limitless in the patient populations that we care for, the venues in which we deliver that care, and the range of patient issues, from preventative care to solving diagnostic mysteries to disease management to procedural medicine. Family physicians are asked to do it all and do it well. Our mission is to provide students with a solid foundation in clinical medicine to prepare them well to care for their future patients using the guiding principles of osteopathic medicine in a way that values the whole person and the important intersection between body, mind, and spirit. We strive to meet our mission while making certain that the students maintain their own health as they navigate through their medical education journey.
WesternU Welcome New President
Western University welcomed Dr. Farias-Eisner as the third permanent president in its 45-year history on March 1, 2022. Dr. Farias-Eisner joins WesternU most recently from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, where he was the Director of the Henry Lynch Comprehensive Cancer Research Center and Chief Academic Officer in the School of Medicine. He was also Associate Dean of Women’s Health and Professor and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the School of Medicine at Creighton.
